I don't know what they are really, but that is what is on my brother's lung and it is not anything serious. Thanks for all the prayers and healthy vibrations y'all sent out.

Umm... I think they like to be called Illuuuusionists. Looks like if I learn an instrument, I'd be set. Too bad it didn't have a question in there relating to my not practicing for those 6 years of piano lessons I took.

Also note #13 was taxidermist. That's gross.

So last night I found out my brother in law tested positive for cancer. He has spots on his liver, but they haven't located it anywhere else. It is rare for the liver to be the first organ effected, so they are doing lots of tests. Hopefully they can just cut out the spots. This morning my mother called with the news that my brother has nodes on his lungs. He is going for a CT scan Monday morning. Please pray for my families!

A dear friend and ally of the DC queer community passed away recently from leukemia and I lost both my grandparents earlier this summer. I am really present to how fragile and uncertain life is. I am so grateful for my good health, but it seems I am being reminded that it is not something to be assumed and certainly not taken for granted. Cancer sucks a lot.

On a happier note, I signed my lease papers and wrote ridiculous checks today. Hooray for having a place to live.

Seriously. I just spent the last 4 days in Dallas at a hella great party. I bought hair, y'all. What is it about Texas that made me purchase a giant hair piece? I was rocking the big hair though. I'll post a picture at some point. In addition to the hair, I scored a FABULOUS dress, met a bunch of fantastic people, danced my ass off, bawled my way through a beautiful recommitment ceremony, and spent time with some of my very favorite people.

Now I'm back in Kansas. I start my new job tomorrow and started missing my husband as soon as we kissed our goodbyes on the shuttle at the Dallas airport this morning.

I arrived safely in Lawrence last night after driving all day from Arlington. The trip was thankfully uneventful. Great weather, light traffic, entertaining book on CD. I arrived at 9:30 feeling gross and smelly from a day of fast food in the car and with a dog I had found running in the street around the corner from my sister in law's house. The owner was soon reunited with the dog, and I got to have a glass of wine and a shower.

In a somewhat ironic turn of events, one of the dogs who lives here escaped unnoticed while I was unpacking my car this morning. I came back to help them search when they called to find out if I might have taken him with me in the car. I turned the car onto their street scanning the underbrush for signs of Ricky and trying not to make up horrible scenarios in my head about how my negligence might have lead to the death of my fur-nephew when I saw a neighbor come out of her house with Ricky in her arms. I promptly parked my car in the middle of the street and ran to retrieve the dog.

Well the trip and interviews were great. To start with, when I checked in at National, Midwest Express switched me to a direct flight. I skipped sitting around for two hours in Milwaukee AND arrived about 15 minutes before my niece and nephew's flight from NY making pick up a breeze.

Interview #1 was a bust. They offered me the job pending my background check, they are nice to their employees AND offer domestic partner benefits. I just don't want to call 50 people a day. Too much. The other two I am waiting to hear back from. Less money, but better life. One even has the benefit of free two person passes to all of the performances at the university. It felt so good to be on the campus.

I had a blast visiting with everyone. It was my first time in Kansas without J. I was proud of myself for finding my way around and I am so excited about the move. I got to meet our super cute new great nephew and our other niece & nephew's new house.

On the down side. If I go out and start working next week, J won't be joining me until the end of September :(. I hate being away from my sweetheart.

We got a call this morning from our realtor that another realtor called and we are on the top of her client's list. An offer on our house would make a huge difference for us right now.

In other news, I am temping at ICF International right now. It is a pretty cool company. Of course, front desk watch is not so stimulating. I am doing HTML tutorials to pass the time. If you have gmail, get on it and chat with me.

But wait, there's more: I just checked my voicemail at lunch and I got a call to schedule an interview with the department of dance at KU.

The funeral for my grandparents was this weekend. The most moving part was the poems my younger sister wrote and read at the graveside. I remember... She really touched on who my grandparents were for people. I was very proud of her. She is generally pretty shy and was really distraught during the service, but read the poems without crying and slowly and loudly so that everyone could hear. Fortunately Jay had lent me a handkercheif because I stood with her when she read it and I didn't make it through without crying.

It was lovely to see family. All of their kids and grandkids and great grandkids had been able to visit them in their final weeks and all but my cousin in the Navy who is on a submarine somewhere made it to the funeral.

My brother spent the weekend with us in Arlington. It was nice to have him for a visit. It was the first time he had visited me here.

In happier news, DrChickon's new bundle of joy arrived this weekend. I am so excited for them and so happy they are both healthy and well. Also, J's mom got very excited about the idea of moving to an assisted living community in Lawrence. That means we will be in the same city as her instead of a 2 hour drive away. He and the sibs had all reached the conclusion that she needed additional help, and were dreading having the conversation. His sister K brought up the idea and now she is so excited about living near 4 of her kids at a place that will take her to the theater that it is all she talks about. We are very relieved.

So I am thirty now. I had a blast at my brithday party. The karaoke was hilarious. A few friends slept out back on the hill. I spent some time yesterday collaging. I made a collage bagua. I spent some time just looking at the pictures and thinking about what I want my life to be like.

My grandmother passed away Saturday morning. A week after my grandfather who had passed away last Sunday. I have no more living grandparents. I am sorry for my mother and her brother and sister to lose both parents so close together. Next Saturday is the funeral in Virginia.

SO far no offers on the house. We are flexing our patience muscles in the process. My contract at the gallery ends June 30 so I am now thinking of what I should do if the house is still not sold then. Look for temp work? Lower the price?
